Tippy Thursday's: Stay Hydrated!!

Aloha Polers, it's Thursday!!!!  This week's Tippy Thursday's tip is to stay hydrated!!

We all know that Pole is a great work out and we can get out sweat on for the day while having an awesome time!!  Well, we still need to remember to stay hydrated while doing so.  I know for a fact and from experience that a lot of us, even while doing other fitness formats, tend  to forget about hydration throughout the workout and tank some water afterwards.  Big NO NO!  By staying hydrated throughout the workout you are helping your body maintain itself better.  Because you are sweating (and I know sometimes it doesn't seem like you are by your body is;) ) and water is leaving your systems (more likely taking away some toxins as well!) you need to replace it:).  Not only is water there for hydration but it is also extremely good for you in so many ways!!  Here are a couple of reasons why water is so good for you:

  1. If you drink water 30 minutes before a meal it will make you feel fuller therefore lowering your calorie intake:)
  2. It also minimizes the chances of colon cancer by 45%, breast cancer by 75% and bladder cancer by 50%!!!!
  3. It maintains the volume and viscosity of blood, which prevents blood thickening and reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases like hypertension and heart attacks:)
  4. It flushes out toxins through urination and sweat!:)
  5. Helps maintain the health of your digestion system:)
Keep water by your side all the time and nourish your body with it;)!!!  Love your body so it can take better care of you!!  Have a great Thursday and hopefully see you tomorrow at the Las Vegas Pole Expo!!!!!!

Technique Tuesday's: Pole Pull-Up's!!!

Aloha Polers, it's Tuesday!  Back at it and hopefully ready for this awesome week and weekend to come!!!!  This week's Technique Tuesday's strengthening move is the simple yet crucial Pole Pull-Up!!  The Pole Pull-Up seems easy as is but if you are used to regular Pull-Ups, taught wring how to do a Pull-Up or new to Pull-Ups all together you may go into them completely the wrong way and end up making it harder for yourself which can be discouraging as well as possibly injury your pretty little self and we DO NOT want to do that;)!  We are going to explain how to do a proper and effective Pole Pull-Up which will in return benefit you in Pole TREMENDOUSLY!!!  You will gain the strength to be able to pull yourself up into an invert instead of inverting from the ground and even from the middle of the pole be able to pull up into all sorts of awesome moves!  Well, let's get to it:

To start the Pole Pull-Up we want to start from the ground.  With the Pole directly in front of you and you on your Tippy Toes place your hands at about the same level as your face.  Your hands will be in the Hand Shake Grip position (Thumb on one side and all of your other fingers on the opposite side of the pole).  From here, roll your shoulders up and back slightly pushing your chest forward.  Then, without jumping up into it, pull your body up.  if you do not leave the floor it is okay!  You will eventually be able to lift yourself off the ground.  When I first started doing the Pole Pull-Up I looked like I wasn't doing anything because from start to finish it looked like I was in the same position but looks can be deceiving because the whole time I was working out those very muscles I needed to work to get into the Pole Pull-Up!  Try to hold yourself either as long as you can of 3 seconds to start.  Then slowly and safely lower yourself on to the ground.  Repeat switching your top hand and doing each side at least 3 times each side to ensure balancing the 'Good' and 'Bad' sides;)!

As I said before, please do no get discouraged if you do not leave the floor during this at the beginning because if you truly work at it you will be doing Pole Pull-Ups in no time!  I was NEVER able to do a Pull-p in my life until I started doing the Pole Pull-Ups during Pole.  After that I can actually do regular Pull-Ups as well!  This was a HUGE accomplishment for me because I was totally weak in my upper body strength.  So, with hard work and dedication you can TOTALLY get this move down therefore opening so many beautiful windows to new moves and tricks:)!!

Have a great Tuesday!!!

Stretchy Sunday's: Ashva Sanchalanasana!

Aloha Poler's, it's ALREADY Sunday!  Thank goodness tomorrow's a holiday for most of us;)!

This week's Stretchy Sunday's Stretch is a great Yoga stretch called the Ashva Sanchalanasana normally known as the low lunge.  This stretch benefits the calves, hamstrings, glutes, quads, lats, shoulders and back of your neck!  Wow, talk about a beneficial stretch!!  Let's get started on it:

Start in a straight arm plank.  From here, go into a downward facing dog pose.  Take 1 or 2 deep breaths and push your left foot up into the air while trying to keep your hips horizontal to the floor.  Slowly and smoothly start the bring your left foot back down while bending your knee and bringing your left foot and knee in front of your torso in a lunge position.  Make sure your knee is not bent in front of your foot but either right above it a little behind it.  From this position slowly and smoothly lower your right knee to the floor and bringing the top of your right foot flat against or horizontal to the floor as well.  While in this position make sure your hands are touching the floor at the sides of your feet, shoulders are rolled back and down, head and chest facing forward (arching your back a little will help) while taking nice and long deep breaths.  After about 3 - 5 deep breaths in this stretch place the ball of your right foot on the floor and place both palms on the floor while pushing your left foot with a bent knee back into your starting straight arm plank position.  From this position, take it into this stretch for your right side.  Once on each side will be enough so after doing once on each side there will be no need for repeating.

That's it!  Very simple yet extremely beneficial stretch that we should all have in our stretching and flexibility routines:).  The most important things to do while stretching and I'll say this many times is to listen to your body (if it hurts modify it to fit you or do not do it at all), drink lots of water, engage your core and breath nice and deeply while focusing on the stretch.  If you follow these as well as the correct way to do a particular stretch you will benefit the most!  Well, have a great Stretchy Sunday:)

Polefessional Saturday's: Natasha Wang!

Aloha Polers, it's Polefessional Saturday and this week's Polefessional is the awesome Natasha Wang!

Sponsored by X-Pole, Natasha is known world wide as a Polefessional with such strength and beauty during her performances:).  With all the training and competitions she has been through, she has gained much knowledge of pole and all it's techniques as well!  Not only is she a pole competitor, she also instructs classes all over the world!  Here is a short a sweet bio from her website http://natashawang.com/bio/ on how she began her awesome journey with pole:

"I came into pole dancing purely by accident.
In 2004, a girlfriend who’d seen pole dancing on Oprah dragged me to an intro class at S Factor. I’d never been comfortable with exhibiting overt sexiness, so it wasn’t exactly love at first fireman spin, but it was a titillating curiosity; a little secret I could hide under my work clothes and my public-facing good girl persona.
I don’t have a gymnastics or dance background, so pole dancing was also an opportunity to be that dancer I’d always fantasize being — without any of the judgment or pressure to be perfect.
I joined Leigh Ann Reilly’s Be Spun gym in 2008 and saw what was possible with the human body. Women and men contorted into unimaginable shapes, instructors and students seemingly levitated. These human beings were achieving the impossible – and I knew I wanted just a little bit of their superpowers. I began training every day, several hours a day.
What started off as something I did with friends for fun once a week, turned into a full-fledged love affair. I began competing in 2009 with little fanfare. Then I joined the cast of Kelly Yvonne’s Girl Next Door show and discovered the art of pole, in which emotion, storytelling, physical prowess and vulnerability came together on stage to create something magical: pole art.
Under Kelly’s mentorship and coaching, I started winning my first titles — first East Meets West/Tri-Pole Challenge’s “Miss Pole-AM 2010,” then the 2010 California Pole Dance Championship followed by the USPDF West Coast Championships that same year. This past April 29, 2011, I cinched the USPDF National Championships title.
Since then, I’ve put my nine-year career as a publicist on hold to embark on what surely will be a strange, surreal journey that will take me around the world. I invite you to join me on the road as this self-professed ‘regular gal’ starts a new chapter of her life. "

Talk about 'meant to be'!  A lot of people try pole out for the same reason but only the people with such passion and love for it achieve so much:)!  Natasha is yet another awesome inspiration in the Pole world that keeps us going when we watch her perform!
Have a great Saturday!!!
